Christian schools in Jefferson and Shelby counties, and how families pay

Most private schools in the two counties are Christian. Whether a given one can take ESA money comes down to accreditation, and the directory shows the answer for each.

Do Christian schools in Birmingham accept the CHOOSE Act?

Many do: 26 of the 54 Christian schools in our directory are on ALDOR's participating list. A school must be accredited or in the accreditation process with a recognized body, and the law names Christian accreditors such as the American Association of Christian Schools and the Alabama Christian Education Association alongside Cognia and AISA.

Why isn't my church's school on the list?

Usually because it is not accredited, or has not applied to ALDOR. A church school can run legally in Alabama without state registration, but it cannot be paid from a CHOOSE Act account until it is approved. Schools can apply year-round, and ALDOR says it decides within 14 days.

What else lowers the cost at a Christian school?

Member pricing, sibling discounts and school aid, plus the Edu Fund partner scholarship at participating church and community schools. Ask the school which fees it bills through ClassWallet.
