Alabama now funds private and home education through two state tax-credit programs, a free pre-K system and federal child care money, and each one lives on a different website with its own calendar. Birmingham Edu Funding puts them side by side for the Birmingham metro and ties them to the schools where the money can be used.
A tuition counselor follows up on each funding check. Some schools and organizations partner with us; we label those relationships and they do not change which sources we point families to.
Where the school data comes from
The directory starts with 83 Jefferson and Shelby records from the NCES Private School Survey (mostly 2023-24, with 2021-22 filings for schools that skipped the latest round), reduced to 80 after removing three duplicate filings. We matched those by name and city, with spot checks, to the Alabama Department of Revenue's CHOOSE Act participating-school list dated October 23, 2026 and retrieved October 28, 2026, and added the 22 listed schools the federal survey does not include. 66 schools in the directory are on the state list.
Program rules come from the CHOOSE Act (Act 2024-21), the 2026-2027 ClassWallet parent and provider guides, ALDOR's 2026-27 timeline and Education Freedom Tax Credit page, the Diocese of Birmingham's SGO and ESA pages, ADECE's First Class Pre-K page, and DHR's January 2026 child care fact sheet. Provider counts come from ALDOR's ESP list of the same date. Neither source reports tuition, so we do not publish it.

Boss Leads runs Birmingham Edu Funding. Nothing here is operated by a school, an SGO, ClassWallet, ALDOR or the state.
